(our values - continued)
Our aim is to make the differences and complexity of identities and realities of life visible time and again. We all have different experiences in our every- day lives. In our work, we always try to reflect on our own privileges and our own behaviour.
Every year, the festival brings the queer communities together, both locally and globally, to engage in dialogue. We want to stimulate discourse, create visibility for different perspectives and promote solidarity within, and out- side, queer communities.
We provide a space for the freedom of art and opinion, critical debate and encounters in mutual respect. We are open to different positions so that these demands on us and our work become a reality. We are aware that we also have to tolerate controversial viewpoints and then use them as an opportunity for further dialogue.
The festival is activistically orientated towards the common good. That’s why we work as a community festival independent of corporations and are in dialogue with queer political associations and organisations, as well as supporters and other queer film festivals.
The Hamburg International Queer Film Festival is trans*generational: we want to create a space in which everyone can learn from and with each other. With our school programme in particular, we want to make queer stories accessible to young people and counteract queer hostility.
We are in a constant learning process and proactively examine our points of view in order to integrate our values into the festival in a sustainable and binding way. We look forward to experiencing and shaping the festival together with you!
