After the festival is before the festival…
The team – including the board of the supporting organisation, Querbild e.V. – work the whole year round to ensure that the festival is a roaring success.
The Hamburg International Queer Film Festival has grown from humble beginnings – a small community-oriented film seminar at the University of Hamburg – to its current incarnation as a 6-day festival with about 70 films and events. It is the biggest and longest-running queer film festival in Germany. This development would not have been possible without our many committed volunteers.

Shaping the festival’s future
Are you interested in helping shape the festival and its film programme? Developing the film programme is a challenge in its own right, and then there’s the organisation of the cinema events, the sound equipment, the presenters, travel planning and assistance for our special guests, the festival brochure, the website… and all the rest!
If you enjoy or are skilled at this kind of work, and can commit to supporting the festival in this way, then please write to us at:
Short on time but want to contribute financially?

Support the festival
Nothing happens during the festival week without the active support of our volunteers. More than one hundred volunteers help us out each year, and we are always looking for more support on the ground. We need decorators to set-up the festival locations, guides to direct and assist film-goers, and ballot sheet counters for the URSULAs, our audience film award. If want to really experience the festival and enjoy being in the thick of it, you’ve come to the right place:
